RAND Exceeds $300 Million Campaign Milestone

Thanks to the support of the entire RAND community

Increasing funding to expand RAND research in areas that are likely to have outsized importance during the next half-century—including governing technology, countering autocracy, advancing climate and energy solutions, reducing inequity—will be part of the campaign priorities going forward.

More than $311 million has been raised toward the $400 million goal in RAND’s Tomorrow Demands Today fundraising campaign. The campaign, which launched in March 2020, aims to help tackle humanity’s greatest problems and is RAND’s most ambitious campaign to date.

Increasing funding to expand RAND research in areas that are likely to have outsized importance during the next half-century—including governing technology, countering autocracy, advancing climate and energy solutions, reducing inequity—will be part of the campaign priorities going forward.

“The extraordinary support of the entire RAND community, including the foundations and individual donors who made grants and gifts to RAND, has led to this achievement—an especially significant milestone for our campaign that was launched in the midst of a global pandemic,” said Brandon Baker, vice president of Development at RAND. “We are grateful to everyone who has invested in RAND and the research needed to address the most critical issues of our time.”

Notable $10 million campaign contributions to date include gifts from:

  • Marcia Carlucci to support the Pardee RAND Graduate School and to name the deanship the Frank and Marcia Carlucci Dean
  • The Epstein Family Foundation to establish an institute focused on generating creative strategies and interventions to address issues facing veterans and military families.
  • The Lowy Family Foundation to create two new RAND research centers, one focused on building new pathways to the American middle class and one aimed at tackling housing and homelessness in Los Angeles
  • Fred Pardee to establish a Pardee RAND community for academic and social support

To help solve both new and enduring challenges, RAND has launched six philanthropically supported research centers and institutes with campaign funding. These include:

Campaign funding has supported the creation of new chair positions at RAND, including:
